The Duties Of A Houseman
Home Maintenance
A houseman plays a crucial role in keeping a property running smoothly, taking responsibility for day-to-day maintenance and general household care. Their duties often include deep-cleaning carpets, polishing wood floors, caring for fireplaces, changing lightbulbs, checking boiler pressure, completing minor repairs, and ensuring every part of the home is safe and functioning properly.
Security & Reliability
Hiring a full-time houseman also brings added security, as they are present in the home during the day and can monitor who comes and goes. Many housemen come from disciplined backgrounds, particularly the military, including Ghurkhas, bringing professionalism, punctuality, attention to detail, and a strong sense of duty. Their training and commitment make them dependable assets in ensuring the safety, order, and smooth running of a private household.
Practical Support
Housemen are valued for their versatility. They may be asked to assist with cleaning, cooking light meals, laundry, caring for pets, gardening, valeting cars, running errands, and even supporting childcare when needed. Because the role is so varied, many private households rely on housemen for their flexibility and practical problem-solving, making them an invaluable all-round member of the home’s staff.
